This informative day-long session is for university-based researchers who are interested in commercializing technology, or becoming involved with a technology-based venture.
The Workshop will focus on models and strategies for bringing a technology out of the academic laboratory into a new venture, and the various roles a university researcher might play in the process. Topics will include intellectual property strategy and valuation; making the decision to start a business; different models for funding and growing a business; government programs for funding and technical assistance; venture capital financing and other resources. Entrepreneurs who have started companies based on Rensselaer technology will share their experiences and perspectives.
The RPI community and other university researchers are invited to join us. There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is required.

To speed new products and services to the market, Eastman Kodak Companyhas recently adopted a strategy that features reliance on external sources of technology as a critical element. Venture-stage companies,as well as university laboratories and government research capabilities are included as sources for technology. The organization of the research efforts within the Kodak Research Laboratories and Business Units, as well as the philosophy and design of the organization supporting this strategy will be overviewed with reference to Kodak's venture-stage investment strategy.
